What is antiques in general? Antiques mean various categories of antiques having one or another value. Value most often consists, in addition to age and material of manufacture, from rarity (rarity) and uniqueness.
“Antique watches” – this category includes antique watches that were invented by mankind in the past (at least more than 50-60 years ago). What kinds and types of materials people did not produce instruments for measuring time. Among the ancient watches there are models dating back several centuries, made of gold and decorated with precious stones. And they were made of such high quality that they can still be used for their intended purpose. It is no exaggeration to say that watches manufactured many years ago also carry historical value. They can be equated with works of art, such as paintings or sculptures. Naturally, the price of such watches is very high, and if they belonged to some famous person, they are sold at a special auction. The price of such antique watches at an auction can rise to unprecedented heights. There are antique watches that are not so expensive in price, for example, watches made without the use of jewelry, just the last century. It is logical that their price is significantly inferior to the models mentioned above, but, nevertheless, they can also be safely classified as antiques.
“I will buy antique watches” – such a phrase can be read in the newspaper, or heard from the lips of collectors, who are numerous on earth. All of them pay tribute to the instrument for measuring time. The only difference is which watch and where to buy. Some people buy more expensive foreign exhibits at auctions, while others socialize on Soviet or Russian pre-revolutionary antique watches.
Mantel clocks are unconditional antiques, since in former times fireplaces were as much a part of the interior as TV is now. Especially for mantel shelves this type of watch was produced. Unfortunately, in conditions of tightness of our apartments, a fireplace is often impossible. But in country houses, a fireplace can be found, but still not as ubiquitous as it was before, when the fireplace was not only in the form of decor and “zest” of the interior, but also served to heat the premises. But, nevertheless, together with the mass disappearance of fireplaces, the mantelpiece also disappeared.
Antiques floor clocks are also an almost endangered species and today are available in limited quantities due to low demand, due, as in the case of a fireplace, to the lack of mass demand. In the past, such watches adorned the living rooms of any home. A floor clock was considered a necessary part of the interior.
Desktop clocks – this type of clock that lives and thrives today. Nowadays, a lot of models are produced, for various tables, both large and small, both with huge dials, and with those on which you can hardly distinguish the hands. The assortment is huge, all of it is made in various forms. You can meet the clock, antique, but you can in the form of unusual fantastic figures. The only distinguishing feature of such watches is that they are produced using modern technologies, often using artificial materials. Therefore, antique table clocks are in special demand among connoisseurs and collectors. Many people prefer an unusual, one-of-a-kind item, while still having historical value.
On which model of antique clocks you choose, it is up to you to decide. Just know one thing that you have made – the right decision. And even if this model is much more expensive than modern counterparts, over the years, it will never fall in price, but on the contrary, it will become more and more expensive from year to year, unless of course you initially purchased the item at a market price.
